Networking Tips For Live Events

Networking Tips For Live Events

Live networking events are a wonderful way to get prospects and is so much better than having to cold call for potential business. However, there are some things that one should avoid doing. So, the following are some networking tips for a live event.

Attending a Networking Event Without a Plan is not Smart Networking

While it is true that showing up is half the battle, knowing what one is going to do when there is the other half. It is always a good idea to have a plan of what you want to accomplish at a networking event. Know how many people to meet or which specific individuals to get to know before you arrive. Write a plan of how early to arrive at an event, how late to stay, and define the goals to be achieved will make a person a much more effective networker at live events. After all, how many other people at the event the think will have a written plan just for that event?  Among all the networking tips for a live event, this one alone will make one a winner. That is why it is the first tip.

Do Not Be Caught without a Business Card

Every business professional should carry plenty of business cards, always. With the number of different business card cases there is no excuse not to have a good amount on hand. Plus, one knows that they are attending a networking event where they will be handing out business cards, so they should have plenty. It would be supremely embarrassing to be at a networking event and not have a business card. What does that say about the person who knowingly goes to a live networking event and does not have plenty of business cards? It would speak poorly about that person and reflects on the type of work that they do.

It would actually be good to have two business card cases full of cards when going to a networking event. It is not inconceivable that a person can run out of business cards, so plan for that not to happen.  One could even keep a box of business cards in their car in case they needed to reload their business card case. The main thing is to never be without a business card when meeting someone new.

Do Not Spend Too Much Time with People You Know

Networking is about meeting new people. As a matter fact the whole reason to go to a live networking event is to meet new people. Therefore, when at a networking event, as diplomatically as possible, avoid familiar acquaintances. The more one knows a person the less amount of time that should be spent with them. That doesn't mean that anyone is ignored but a simple handshake and hello is all one really needs to give to familiar people. Avoid getting caught up into a conversation with them. If one is truly working the event as an experienced networker, then the networker should already be in conversations with people they don't know.  That will alleviate any problems from people feeling ignored or snubbed.

Power Through the People

Posted by: | Comments (0)

You are in a room full of people and across the way you see someone who is naturally friendly and has the gift to gab or even better, the gift of making friends. We call them a people-person, someone unbelievably nice and charismatic that they can charm anyone into doing anything.

A socially-empowered person achieves greatness because of the people he surrounds himself with. He earns the trust and all-out support of the people whom he helped before. He can do anything with the plethora of people behind him. All because he knows how to maximize his social potential with self-empowerment!
Self-empowerment is making a general overhaul in your life and turning yourself into a happier and more successful person. Here are a few tips on how to make it happen:

1. Be genuine.
Hypocrisy will just bring you all the way down. Be genuinely nice and interested to people. Once they perceive that you are Mr. Hypocrite with selfish intentions, you might as well say goodbye to self-empowerment.

2. Be the greatest listener that you can be.
To earn the love and trust of the people, listen to their problems and sympathize with them. Do not just hear them out, listen to them with your heart. Make eye contact when the person talks to you. Listen as if every word matters and it does. Brownie points when they find out that there is a confidante in you.

3. Laugh out loud.
I do not mean that you force yourself to laugh for every joke cracked by someone, albeit you do not find it funny at all. This means finding humor in things and not being too darn serious. A person oozing with an awesome sense of humor attracts crowds and eventually, attracts success.

4. Don’t forget yourself.
In the process of fluttering around like a social butterfly, you might forget yourself, allowing everyone to push you over. Remember, love and value yourself before anyone else. If you deem yourself respectable and worthy of affection, people will flock to you and not trample on you.

5. Do random acts of kindness.
You don’t have to do a John Rockefeller and blow your savings to charity. Little acts of kindness matters the most and this can be as simple as giving someone a surprise you-take-care card or helping an elderly cross the street. When we were kindergarten students, kindness was taught to us and greatly practiced. Now is the time to revive the good deeds and this time, let them stay for good.

How to Become an Ideal Leader

Posted by: | Comments (9)

Are you a leader

Are you a leader

When you are at work, do you get frustrated because things don’t seem to be happening the way they’re supposed to be? You see people milling around but nothing gets accomplished. And in the daily hustle and bustle, do you feel that your goals remain just that – goals. Then maybe its time for you to stand up and do something about it.

Most people are content just to stand around listening for orders. And it isn’t unusual to adopt a follow-the-leader mentality. But maybe, somewhere inside of you, you feel the desire to make things happen – to be the head, not the tail. Then maybe leadership just suits you fine.

Some people believe that great leaders are made, not born. Yes, it may be true that some people are born with natural talents. However, without practice, without drive, without enthusiasm, and without experience, there can be no true development in leadership.

You must also remember that good leaders are continually working and studying to improve their natural skills. This takes a commitment to constantly improve in whatever endeavor a person chooses.

First of all, let’s define leadership. To be a leader, one must be able to influence others to accomplish a goal, or an objective. He contributes to the organization and cohesion of a group.

Contrary to what most people believe, leadership is not about power. It is not about harassing people or driving them using fear. It is about encouraging others towards the goal of the organization. It is putting everyone on the same page and helping them see the big picture of the organization. You must be a leader not a boss.

First of all, you have to get people to follow you. How is this accomplished?

People follow others when they see a clear sense of purpose. People will only follow you if they see that you know where you are going. Remember that bumper sticker? The one that says, don’t follow me, I’m lost too? The same holds true for leadership. If you yourself do not know where you’re headed to, chances are people will not follow you at all.

With all the bad news about the state of the economy with people losing their very own shirt off their back makes you wander, Why keep putting your self and your family in the same spot that you here about every night on the news?

It seems people are starting to wake up and understand that the good ole job market (Corporate America) is not like it use to be, and it is never coming back! Between 8 to 11 seconds someone is starting their own home based business. But the sad part 98% will not find success in their new found business leaving back to the useless job market. I mean what is a job (Just Over Broke), and 98% will go back and make claims like, all that business was a scam, or it was just a ponzi scheme.

Well the real truth is that 98% of those did not have what the 2% had, that was passion, drive and the will to be coach able by some one that has gone through it all ready. This is one of the greatest lesson I have learned, was you don’t have to do it alone. In fact I will advice you to do you due diligence and to find, first the right service or product to get in. You should have a passion for this business or else there will be a good chance you will be one of the 98% that fail.

OK great you found something that you are all fired up about, now it is time to start to use your computer to look around at the different opportunities that is right for you! Find yourself a very proactive team if you can, and then find a mentor out of that team. Someone that is willing to at least have weekly meetings with you to help you through the learning curve. Teaching you such strategies like attraction marketing, personal branding, etc, etc.

Once you have things in place people will be calling you, not you calling your family and friends to make a sell off them. You see this is really not about selling people, people don’t like being sold. This business is about helping others, once you start to understand and apply these strategies that you will learn from your team and mentor, it is all down hill or should I say downline!

Former homebuilder Robert Mergupis has made that transition into marketing on-line with the elite marketers of today. He has learned through his own pitfalls and other leaders with their unique techniques that help elevated him as an expert business developer, author, mentor, coach and leader in the network marketing industry!

Robert loves to pay it forward and share what he has learn for the new people that is just starting out. He explains that you must have a blueprint and if you don’t you set yourself up to fail!

In business, first impressions matter a lot. A client will be annoyed if he is welcomed into a cluttered office.

With the state of the economy the way it is today I am seeing an increase in the level of interest a person has in starting their own business. When I ask the new entreprenuer a few basic questions regarding the tools they are using to build their new business I am shocked at how many people have that deer-in-the-headlight look.

So many people are jumping to the conclusion that starting a business from home is tied to a big expense and that the tools they need to use are not affordable to operate efficiently. Therefore, many business owners are not empowered to build strategically with the use of the internet. Because I am a big believer in maximizing online tools I came up with a list that will help take your business to the next level.

Here is a list of necessary tools that are free to use.

Webcast: Mikogo is free screensharing software that you can use for webinars, product demonstrations, online meetings, etc.

Video Production: Animoto is a great way to turn your photos into video. As we all know video’s drive traffic to your website. Therefore, a simple way to create a video is to upload pictures of you or your business into Animoto, select sound clips to match the video and publish to YouTube or other video sites.

Conference Calling: Free Conference Call.com is a teleconference line available 24/7. Do you need to have a quick meeting with your team members or sales staff? Easily done with this service.

Calendar: Google Calendar is an efficient way to keep track of your events. I use this service to color code the conference calls, events, and even set up Text Messaging reminders so I don’t miss a beat. A great feature in Google Calendar allows you to invite others to share the calendar so it works great for planning events.

Business Forms: Google Docs has a host of forms and templates that can assist you with your business. Find a template, complete the form and then print it to a PDF file direct from the desk top. Many of the templates will even feed into specific software programs you might use. It is a great way to invoice your clients.

Advertising: Craigslist is a favorite for free advertising. If you own a service business or want to sell a product this service is for you. Not only is it good for advertising it is also great for prospecting. Check out the “wanted” section as you might be able to fill a need of what people are looking for. Be sure to read the compliance section of Craigslist because they don’t hesistate to shut your account down if your ad is flagged too many times.

Well, that all depends. If you have insurance, you probably won’t use it. If you don’t have it, you’ll probably be sorry. Insurance is just one of those necessary evils. Keep the following points in mind when you consider whether or not you need home based business insurance.

First, will you be obtaining a business license of any kind? If so, you will need to check the licensing requirements. Some local governments require that you maintain a certain level of Liability insurance especially if people will be coming to your home during the course of your business. If your local government doesn’t require home based business insurance, then you must look at your individual situation and make that call. You may want to consult a licensed insurance agent to advise you of possible affordable options.

Will you keep an inventory in your home? In that case, you will want to insure it against a potential loss. Many homeowners’ insurance policies do not cover the loss of business supplies so check with your local insurance agent to find out the best option for your home based business insurance needs.

If you use your car consistently in your business, you will probably need to contact your auto insurance agent. Premiums usually increase when you drive your car for regular business use. One thing to keep in mind is that business use of a car is often tax deductible so this can help defray the added home based business insurance cost.

Many people run their businesses without any type of insurance, due to lack of knowledge. Starting a business is hard enough without risking the loss of all of your hard work because you didn’t invest in home based business insurance.

Contact your local CPA and Insurance to find a policy that will suit your needs. Trust me. It’ll be worth every penny and provide peace of mind
