There's one other thing that's needed for leadership: courage. A leader is someone willing to take responsibility for the people who follow them. All you have to do is see an emergency situation. Most of the people will stand around helpless because they either don't know what to do or they don't want the responsibility (or risk the blame.) The leaders know what to do (or are willing to try because they aren't willing to stand by and do nothing).

In fact, as an addendum to that, a leader also has to be the person willing to swallow any misgivings or fear and get up in front of people and speak their minds (knowing that it's always the person in the front who get shot first.)

You can't be a leader sitting in your office ignoring your troops. As Lisa said, people really want to be a part of something bigger than themselves. That's why so many kids join the military.

As a leader, you have to make your people KNOW that they are a vital part of something bigger and grander than themselves. Like Lisa said, they will go through hell and high water for you.

Thank you Ingrid. Leadership doesn't have to be hard...you just need a passion to assist others and do for them what they would do for you.

So many good points here. I especially appreciate the clarification that a leader doesn't make people do something. The true leader can help everyone understand the group's purpose and can influence them toward that goal using all the abilities represented in the group. A great admonition for everyone desiring to be a good leader.

So true, Lisa. Without developing oneself as a leader, the business will not grow. And leadership is about development, and being the mirror you speak of.

Great post.

Lisa I love this post, you have hit the nail on the head here. If more people would take this approach in this industry the failure rate would not be so high.

Great write up about what a leader is and is not. New network marketers fear taking on leadership roles because they think it's something they don't qualify to do... and as a result, their business doesn't grow. One must understand that leadership is about leading, setting the example and not pushing people around. You hit the nail on the head.

And YOU Lisa, are a great role model for others to follow.
